This lift was built in 1901 by Raúl Mesnier de Ponsard, a Portuguese engineer with French roots, who was influenced by Gustave Eiffel. It connects the Baixa and Chiado neighbourhoods. You can take a break in the café on the upper platform, 32m above street level, and enjoy the fine view over the Rossio and Baixa.
