This artificial lake, created by Alphand, was designed to regulate water levels and thus control flooding by the River Marne. It serves as a reservoir for the two other lakes of the Bois de Vincennes (Daumesnil and Minimes), and the rivers running through the woods. Its water lilies add a peaceful charm to the lake.
