This long shopping street links Montparnasse with the heart of Sèvres-Babylone. It is lined with some fine classical mansions, as well as the boutiques of young fashion designers in the section before boulevard Raspail. N° 40 was the home of the Count of Rochambeau; and Abbé Grégoire died at n° 44. René Laennec, the inventor of the stethoscope, lived on the corner of rue de l'Abbé-Grégoire. The 18C mansion at n° 85 is home to the Musée Ernest-Hébert.
