Designed by Salomon de Brosse for Marie de Medici, this palace is French in style with Florentine touches. The main courtyard is enclosed by an arcaded gallery. The Doric ground floor with its semicircular openings adds to the robust overall appearance. On the south façade, note the central pavilion with its square-shaped dome, a large pediment and balustraded terrace. The palace is home to the French Senate. The former orangery now houses the Musée du Luxembourg, which hosts major exhibitions.
