Remains of the commercial warehouses for dolia (large earthenware jars), dating from the 1C and 3C, are the main focus of this museum which is home to ancient objects retrieved from old shipwrecks. Exhibits demonstrate the major role played by Marseille in Mediterranean maritime trade and a model helps you to imagine how the site and its surrounding area looked during the first centuries of our era. The transparent footbridges and the light and sound installations do much to modernise one of Marseille's oldest museums.
