Monjuïc hill, a lush green park overlooking the port, is the lungs of Barcelona and commands splendid views of the city as well as being home to some of its museums. It was completely transformed as a result of the 1929 Universal Exhibition, when its slopes became gardens (a project headed by prestigious French gardener Jean-Claude-Nicolas Forestier) and a number of large edifices, subsequently restored for the 1992 Olympic Games, were erected.
