Since the 18C, this road has been associated with cabarets, dance halls, theatres, restaurants and anything to do with night-time entertainment. Several theatres are still there: Montparnasse theatre (N°31), Gaîté-Montparnasse (N°26), Bobino (N°20), Comédie italienne (N°17) and the Rive-Gauche theatre (N°6).
