The National Museum of the US Navy was opened in 1963. Its permanent and temporary exhibitions chart the history of the American Navy, both in wartime and peacetime (including exploration, navigation, humanitarian missions). Highlights of the collection include the fighting top from the USS Constitution; Trieste, the world's deepest diving submersible; and the khaki uniform of former Fleet Admiral, Chester W. Nimitz.
