The imposing neo-Gothic cathedral and its Gloria in Excelsis Tower (91m) preside over the city from their vantage point (Mount St Alban). The last stone of the cathedral, officially called the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, was laid in 1990: 83 years after work on it began. Light shines through fine contemporary stained-glass window into the imposing interior.
