This 18C Renaissance basilica contains a Romanesque pilgrimage statue of the Enthroned Virgin in polychrome wood. Mary is said to have appeared on this site in February 1081. Since the 17C, the statue is often draped in rich garments and ornaments concealing all but the Infant Jesus' face. Note the chancel, six white-stone low-reliefs depicting the church's history and a fine pulpit.
