Houses with sumptuous gates (17C, 18C) line Vestergade, while more modest houses with projecting windows run along Uldgade and Spikergade. The opulent Christ Kirke (a 16C church) houses a rood screen gallery and a 17C altarpiece. Behind the monumental gate, a vestige of the castle, there is a museum showing Batavian earthenware and ceramics, lace and silverware. The Tønder Fine Arts Museum (Kunstmuseet i Tønder), in the same location, shows contemporary art and Surrealist paintings.
