Phaselis occupies a small promontory covered with maritime pines, which juts into the sea between two large bays of turquoise water. This delightful site is perfect for a stroll: wander along the beautiful marble avenue which seems to lead into the sea, and then enjoy a swim near the submerged ruins of the sea walls. Phaselis was a commercial port, which was founded around 690 BC and remained prosperous until the 8C. The site offers an excellent overview of the region's history, with its Greek agora, Roman baths and Byzantine houses.
