Marshal de Broglie, governor of Alsace, built this long rectangular space planted with trees in the 18C. At the far end, the municipal theatre is decorated with columns and muses sculpted by Ohmacht (1820). To the left is the 18C town hall, previously owned by the counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg and later by the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt. The embankment is lined with the majestic façade of the prefect's residence (1736), originally the Hôtel de Klinglin.
