This citadel rises up from lush vegetation in the form of a string of seven castles on terraces. The sheer walls of their impressive facades soar up towards the sky, while chimney stacks seem to hang from nothing and staircases go nowhere, all of which painting a rather haunting portrait. These tangled ruins, shrouded in mystery and standing guard since time immemorial over a bend in the river, the view over the foothills of Upper Auvergne and the 10ha/25-acre park are all quite unforgettable.
