Along a maze of winding roads, Haute-Provence is depicted by a patchwork of narrow valleys, whose terraced fields alternate with forests. From one valley to the next, frothing torrents have hewn through mountain ranges forming superb clues (gorges) like Clue du Riolan, Clue d'Aiglun and Clue de Saint-Auban, for which the area is renowned. High altitude villages steeped in charm bask in the shade of these slopes.
