This is the highest point of the Vosges (1 424m): the Grand Ballon or Ballon de Guebwiller. The breathtaking panorama encompasses the southern Vosges, the Black Forest and, on a clear day, the Jura and the Alps. Don't forget your binoculars! A little below the summit is the Monument to the "Blue Devils", in memory of France's heroic mountain infantrymen. It is a 30-minute return walk to the Grand Ballon from the hotel on Route 431 from Markstein.
