White sand, filaos and transparent turquoise water: the beaches of the province of Kompong Som more than justify Sihanoukville's seaside vocation. They stretch out for nearly 15km/10mi, one after the other, attracting tourists and sidewalk vendors - along with a growing number of property developers trying to privatise portions of the beach for new hotels. If you've come to take a dip, steer clear of the downtown beaches, which can be sadly polluted.
