Of the 14 pyramids on the site chosen by the pharaohs of the V Dynasty, four remain today. The Pyramid of Sahure, with its funerary temple, is the best preserved. The main interest of the site, though, resides in the solar temple of Niuserre, the only Old Kingdom temple still standing. The pharaohs of the V Dynasty were all devoted to a cult to the god Re, as shown by the suffix of their names, meaning "son of Re".
