The headland of Sa Caleta is the site of the rare testament to an urban Phoenician habitat, which was occupied from the very end of the 8C BC until the 6C BC. The location is strategic since it surveys a broad portion of the south coast: to the west, Punta des Jondal, to the east, Punta de sa Rama, which dominates the salt flats, and partly accounts for the Phoenician presence on the island. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is also a lovely spot for a picnic, as you contemplate the coast in the shade of the pines.
