The elegant and gracious Cathedral of the Resurrection, in the heart of Smolny Monastery, is without doubt Rastrelli's greatest masterpiece and it proudly displays its Italian inspired Baroque exuberance tinged with Russian influences, such as gilded onion domes and colourful façade. In contrast, the immaculate white interior seems sober, even austere. Best admired during a concert of live music.
