Built in the 1970s, this road links San Pedro de Alcántara with Ronda, and crosses the two most spectacular mountain ranges in the province of Málaga. To the left, it skirts the Parque Natural de la Sierra de las Nieves and to the right the Sierra Bermeja. It then climbs gradually through a swathe of Spanish fir (Abies pinsapo) and crosses the Alijar Pass (410m), before descending dramatically to the coast.
