White Hall State Historic Site
O Guide Vert
Opinião do Guia Michelin
This brooding, Italianate-style house guarded by concrete lions was home to the "Lion of White Hall," the flamboyant abolitionist Cassius Marcellus Clay (1810-1903). Scion of a wealthy family, Clay never realized his ambition to serve in Congress, but he was elected to the Kentucky General Assembly and was later appointed ambassador to Russia by President Abraham Lincoln. His grand home consists of a house within a house: the simple 1798 Georgian residence built by his father and the elaborate overlay added after 1861. A notable feature is the indoor bathroom, which utilized rainwater collected from the rooftop.
