Royal Chapel in Pyrga

The modest exterior belies the treasure that lies within: a series of paintings created in the 15C at the time of the Lusignan dynasty, in a style blending Western and Byzantine influences. The most outstanding are the splendid Crucifixion, with King Janus and his wife Charlotte of Bourbon kneeling at the foot of the cross. Their daughter, Anne, went on to marry the Duke of Savoy, taking with her to her new country a Cypriot vine destined to make its mark: Roussette.
