This magnificent neo-Renaissance building completed in 1896 is one of the great national monuments in the city centre. Abundantly decorated on all sides by major artists Mikoláš Aleš, Stanislav Sucharda, Max Svabinský and Bohuslav Schnirch, it is two storeys high and features a staggering decorative inventiveness, from the mosaic floor to the stained-glass ceiling. Note, in the lunettes, the evocations of the virtues of Saving, Industry, a Social Conscience and the Union of Work and Capital.
