The "newness" of Nové Město (New Town) is relative, as it was built in the mid 14C on the order of Charles IV. This was his greatest accomplishment and many of the monuments remain pivotal to the city. The district's streets and period squares are always bustling, especially Wenceslas Square, and its many clubs, discos, inns and literary cafes make it the hub of the city's nightlife.
