Its bell tower dominates Piran and shapes its skyline. The basilica built from 1595 to 1637 replaced a Gothic building. Its modest façade forms a pediment with pilasters. The nave displays its splendour with a richly decorated wooden ceiling, Baroque stalls and a very fine organ from 1746. Inspired by that of St Mark's in Venice, the bell tower (1608), from which a magnificent view can be enjoyed, rises to 47m. This complex was completed in 1650 by an octagonal baptistery.
