The scales are in the public weigh house, a Renaissance building with a stepped gable and brick mosaic tympanums. In the 16C, women suspected of witchcraft were brought here from afar to be weighed in the presence of the bourgmestre: if their weight was not too low in relation to their height, it was calculated that they could not sit astride a broomstick and they were acquitted... the last acquittal certificate dates from 1729! The storehouse now contains a museum on the history of witchcraft.
