A pinnacle of Art nouveau, the Urania movie theatre is one of the city's most iconic edifices. Designed by architect Viktor Axmann in 1912, the cinema has managed to remain open while keeping its original decor. The Kino Europa, a rival movie theatre was built directly opposite in 1939 by Ljudevit Pelzer, is a testament to "functional architecture".
