Formerly Europe's largest blast-furnace gasometer and built between 1928-29, it has since become a spectacular venue for cultural events, happenings and exhibitions. This "cathedral of industry", 100m/328ft high inside gives a remarkable impression of space. Inside, a panoramic elevator takes visitors to a height of 106m/348ft.
