The austere, bare 15C surrounding wall of this castle forms a rectangle that is broken by just two corner towers and watch turrets. The rampart walk provides pleasant views of the town, the saltmarshes and the ocean. A 12C square keep has been turned into a museum. The castle presents a different temporary exhibition every year, the theme of which is always related to the history of Noirmoutier.
