Towada Lake and Hachimantai Plateau (85,411ha/211,000acres) make up one of the most beautiful national parks in northern Japan. This unspoiled natural site boasts superb landscapes and countless onsen (hot springs) which are among the most authentic of Japan. In winter, the snow-bound region is even more spectacular. A bus network operates, but buses are few and far between and a car is definitely the best option.
