The cathedral belongs to the monastery of Our Lady of the Sign founded in 1630 on an estate belonging to the Romanov family after it reached the throne. This church with five domes and kokoshniki (corbel arches used as a transition between the cylindrical drum and the building) was built between 1679 and 1684. The highly successful recent renovations have restored its unique charm.
