Butte de Montfaucon
O Guide Vert
Opinião do Guia Michelin
The village of Montfaucon, which stands on a hill that constitutes the highest point in the region, was fortified and used as a lookout post by the Germans during the First World War. An American Monument stands here, with steps leading up to a 57m column surmounted by a Statue of Liberty (which you can reach via a set of 235 stairs). From the top of the column there is a panoramic view over the battlefield to the northwest of Verdun: the Butte de Vauquois, Hill 304, the right bank of the Meuse River and, in the distance, the Fort of Douaumont.
