Inaugurated in 1926, but only open to the public since 2001, the steepest funicular in the world has been likened to a roller coaster! In just ten minutes, it climbs to Gelmer Lake (Gelmersee), wedged up high in the mountains. Once at the summit, you can either walk round the lake (1hr45min) or head for the Gelmer Refuge (Gelmerhütte, 2hr).
