Nowadays as popular with tourists as Komodo, the island of Rinca (2hr by boat from Labuhan Bajo), smaller but closer to the coasts, boasts a more varied fauna and flora, as well as a colony of around 1 000 Komodo dragons. It takes 30min on foot to get from the landing stage to Loh Buaya, where visitors pay an admission fee. A walk in the savannah (2hr) is an opportunity to see impressive Komodo dragons and water buffalo. The distinctive silhouette of lontar palm trees stands out against the horizon.
