Built in 1902, this round-shaped kiln, which required 100,000 heat-resistant bricks, was designed for firing porcelain. A listed Historic monument, the massive kiln (19.5m/64ft high and 80m3/263ft3 volume) is equipped with a reversed flame system. The kilns were fired for 40hrs at temperatures up to 1,400°C/2,500°F. In the early 20C, Limoges' 135 kilns employed some 12,000 workers.
