Although the Beguine convent dates from the 13C, most of its houses date from the 17C and 18C. The entrance is through a late-17C Renaissance-style portico, topped by a statue of St Begga. The cottages, some of which have small front gardens, are situated along narrow paved alleyways and bear evocative names such as "Flight to Egypt" or "Five Small Wounds". The church has a 17C Baroque façade, crowned by scrolling and a lantern turret from the 18C. The Benguine convent is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
