It is impossible to miss this immense monastery and its tall dome-shaped tower. Inside the Gothic nave was treated to a lavish Baroque makeover in the 17C. Lepoglava was for many years a university. Created by the monks of Saint Paul, it was active from 1674 to 1786, at which point the congregation was expelled. From 1854 to 2001, the convent was home to Croatia's largest prison.
