The reconstruction of the castle, on the foundations of an older edifice, was abandoned in 1407. Only the main façade was finished, hence its current disconcerting allure. Enter through the roofless Bourneville gate and take a step back to admire the façade. Also note at the top of the towers, the magnificent 15C bas-reliefs set into the alcoves beneath triple-centred arches. One of the bas-reliefs depicts the Crowning of the Virgin.
