Begun in 1511 by a blind monk, the ossuary (Kostnice), which stands in the centre of Sedlec cemetery, owes its current appearance to František Rint. In 1870 the sculptor was entrusted with the task of using the bones from 40,000 graves to create extraordinary patterns. Today fantastic chandeliers and the coat of arms of the Schwarzenberg family, owners of the abbey of Sedlec after its secularisation, are still visible.
