Strøget, a series of streets, widening at some points into squares, is Copenhagen's main thoroughfare. It takes you through Old Copenhagen, window-shopping all the while, from Rådhuspladsen (Town Hall Square) to Kongens Nytorv (New Royal Square). The ground floors of the historical buildings - and numerous basements, too, a Scandinavian peculiarity - are occupied by shops, cafés, restaurants and ice cream parlours etc.
