The memorial (2000) of the 1995 earthquake, designed by Shingo Kusuda, is located in Higashiyuenchi Park near the town hall of the city of Kobe. Set amongst trees within a red brick amphitheatre, the "Cosmic Elements" waterfall is made out of a visible section in black granite and an underground concrete circular section on which are inscribed in gold letters the names of the 6,437 victims. When the sunlight illuminates this space with a glass roof, the effect is strikingly beautiful!
