A short distance from Kobarid, the Kozjak, a torrent flowing down from Mt Krnčica and a tributary of the Soča, forms many basins and gorges, as well as six waterfalls, the last two of which are particularly picturesque. The most spectacular is the Great Kozjak (Veliki Kozjak). The stream rushes into a dark chamber hewn out of the rock by erosion. The 15m high waterfall, illuminated by a narrow fissure, falls like a column of light into the emerald waters of the vast lower basin.
