Sprawling over 2,078 acres on the eastern side of the ridge above Berkeley, this undeveloped preserve offers attractions to people of all ages, including swimming and fishing in Lake Anza, golf, pony rides, picnicking, group camping, hiking trails, a petting zoo and miniature train rides. Also here are the walking paths of the 740-acre Tilden Nature Area, whose Environmental Education Center hosts a wide variety of naturalist programs. Next door stands the Little Farm, which delights kids with its live animals. Also within the park, the 10-acre Botanic Garden cultivates the world's largest collection of California native plants. Landscaped on picturesque terraces along the banks of Wildcat Creek, the garden's more-than-1,500 species are divided into 10 separate sections that correspond with geographical regions of the state.
