Like something out of a fairy-tale, the amazing rooftops of Jumilhac château, surrounded by formal gardens, inspired the engraver Gustave Doré. Antoine Chapelle, a master blacksmith knighted by King Henri IV, decorated them with lead ridge groins (forges), adorned with human and fantasy figures based on intertwined alchemical and seigneurial symbolism.
