In 1987, after Klaus Barbie was convicted of crimes against humanity, the Association of the Memorial Museum of the Children of Izieu was founded by Sabine Zlatin, who had run the children's home in 1943 and 1944. Inside the house, where all 44 Jewish children and their seven teachers were arrested on 6 April 1944, the refectory, classroom and dormitories have been reconstructed. An exhibition charts the fate of the children and their families at the height of the Nazi regime. There is also a documentation centre (by appointment) in the silkworm farm.
