A visit to the imperial complex of Fatih Mehmet is one of the highlights of any visit to Istanbul, both because of its monumental appearance and the atmosphere in this strong Islamist district of the city (appropriate attire required). Mehmet II built this complex in the 15C. Following the earthquake of 1766, the mosque was rebuilt in Baroque style. Its decoration is not particularly noteworthy, apart from the polychrome marble minbar and the fine calligraphy adorning the west-facing windows. It is worth spending more time in the cemetery, where you can admire the extremely beautiful türbe (tomb) of Mehmet II.
