The Wilten district occupies the site of the Roman settlement of Veldidena, on the spot where the Sill emerges from its gorges after flowing down the Brenner. It lies at the foot of the wooded Bergisel hill, a major Tyrol historic site since the battles against Napoleon's troops in 1809. The district is home to a monastery dating from the 12C.
