This cultural building was designed by Alvar Aalto as part of his urban plan for the new city centre around the Bay of Töölön. The central part of the building was completed in 1971, but the conference wing was only added in 1975. A veranda designed by Jyrki Iso-aho was opened in 2011. The whole of this white Carrara marble building rests on a black granite base.
