Founded by the Catholic Monarchs in the early 16C, this hospital, the work of Enrique Egas, is built in the shape of a cross set in a square with four interior courtyards. Notice the Plateresque-style windows on the first floor of the facade, the ornamentation of the entablature on the 17C marble doorway and, inside, the harmony of the two patios in the left wing of the building decorated with heraldic symbols. On the first floor, the central library of the University is well worth a look.
